The 3,363-metre peak of Mt. Edith Cavell towers over our little hostel set in a narrow valley below this spectacular setting. Aside from easy access to breath-taking views of the Angel Glacier and the Cavell Meadows, HI-Mount Edith Cavell is the perfect base to start backcountry hikes into the Tonquin Valley.

This is a wilderness hostel with limited creature comforts - no running water, no showers, and no flush toilets. We do have purified water for cooking, a refrigerator, propane stoves and lights.

It is important to note that in the winter (Oct to May) the ROAD UP TO THE HOSTEL IS CLOSED, guests will be required to hike, ski, or snowshoe up to the hostel from the highway. *approx 11km*

**NOTE - Due to the wilderness location, accessibility for the physically disabled is challenging (call for further details) Credit Card needed when making reservations. Due to lack of direct/reliable communication with the Wilderness Hostels the Central Reservation Office is not able to make same day arrival reservations - walk in basis only. 48 hours individual cancellation - at all wilderness hostels. Book ahead to avoid any disappointment. As these smaller hostels are very popular both winter and summer.

OCT TO MAY - KEY ACCESS ONLY -You will need to obtain the key at the HI-JASPER HOSTEL. (Damage/Key deposit will be required)

*This hostel is closed during the day!
CHECK OUT - prior to 10am

No running water, no electricity, no phone service.
A word on HI-Wilderness Hostels

Get back to nature with HI's network of wilderness hostels. They're a varied bunch! Some have lights powered by propane, some have rustic wood-burning saunas, at some you'll get electricity, and at others you'll get to pump your own water. But whatever you're after, these hostels with their simple comforts immerse you in the natural splendour of the Rockies.

You'll be able to savour true silence, night skies bursting with stars and the knowledge that some of the world's most magnificent outdoors is, really, just out the door. Dotted along the Icefields Parkway, and throughout the Parks, these hostels are set into pockets of trees, alongside creeks, or at the base of thousand-foot-high rock faces. Whether you get there by car, bike or on foot, your efforts are rewarded with some of the finer, simpler things in life - a warm fire, cozy lounges, and the chance to share food with new friends while you relive the day's adventures.

HI Mt Edith Cavell is part of HI Canada, a not-for-profit organization on a mission to build a community of conscious travellers who share a greater understanding of people, places and cultures.

Had a great time at HI Mt. Edith. The hosts are super friendly and together with the great location they create a very welcoming atmosphere. The kitchen is very well equipped and will be in a very cozy temperature as it gets colder outside due to the nice wood-fired oven.

The atmosphere at this place is great! People were openly talking with one another, nobody was distracted by their phone since there was no chance of service. The location is wonderful, the hostel is surrounded by mountains and a river within walking distance. It’s a wilderness hostel but there is everything one could need: cooking facilities, water tanks for refilling water bottles and for doing the dishes, comfy beds, a fireplace. Stayed for three nights and already miss this special place!

Great hostel manager :-) location perfect for rest seeking and hiking people. Missing fluish water isn’t a problem: you can just go to the HI jasper hostel for having a shower and WiFi :P
